Janell Brown is the 2025-2026 Project Accept Elementary Support Professional of the Year!
Janell joined Team Tulsa in 2022 as a teacher's assistant. She now serves as the attendance clerk at Project Accept. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her role.
What led you to a career in education?
When I was younger, I wanted to be a teacher but I did not pursue it. There was a layoff at my [former] job, and I was not ready to retire and do nothing. As I was watching television one afternoon, I heard Tulsa Public Schools needed teachers and teacher's assistants. I applied for a TA position in hopes that I would be hired before the school year started. An amazing lady called me for an interview and after onboarding I was hired to be a TA at her school which is Project Accept.
What is your favorite thing about your work?
What makes me come in daily is the children, this is my favorite reason for working here.
What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?
When I am not at work, my peace is what I cherish.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I would like for people to not look at our school as a rough or bad place to come to but a place where the heart shows why we are here.
